Quan Ho singing of Bac Ninh, a folk tune of the Northern Delta, appears mainly in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang. This is an art combined by a large number of elements such as music, lyrics, costume, festival… With a way of singing wildly, Quan Ho shows the tight relationship between “lien anh” and “lien chi” and it is an outstanding culture trait of Kinh Bac residents.
Quan Ho is a type of folk music which has the most abundant melody in the Vietnamese folk music. It is reserved throughout generations by words of mouth. If you want to sing Quan Ho, you must have a group of boys or girls. Therefore, a Quan Ho village usually has many boy group and girl group. Each group has 4, 5, 6 members which are named in order: sister Two, Three, Four, Five, Six or brother Two, Three, Four, Five, Six. If there are 7 or 8 members, they will be named as sister Little Three, brother Little Four…instead of sister Seven, Eight of brother Seven, Eight. In the Quan Ho activities, members do not call each other’s real name but the nick name in the group.

Quan Ho Bac Ninh is a form of conversational singing between girl group and boy group. A girl group of a village sings together with a boy group of another village a same song but different lyrics and voice. Sing group decide the lead vocal and supporter who voices can combine to become a unified voice. Quan ho has 213 different voices with over 400 songs. The lyrics of a song consist of 2 parts: main lyric and extra lyric. Main lyric, a type of poem and folk of Vietnam, is mainly 6-8 words, 6-8 distortion, 4 words, a mixture of 4 words with metaphorical words, innocent and exemplary. Quan Ho in Bac Ninh exists in a cultural environment with private social custom. The first one is “ket cha” custom among Quan Ho villages. From this custom, Quan Ho making friend appears in the special social custom of groups. Each Quan Ho group of a village make friends with a group of another village based on the principle that boy group makes friend with girl group and vice versa. With villages which did the “ket cha”, members of the group can not marry the other members.

The 13th day of the Lunar January is the exact day of festival. However, from the early 12th day, the center of festival is joyful with folk games such as To Tom Diem contest, Du Tien, wrestling, breaking the pot, human chess, weaving, hide and seek and tugging.
Lim festival has 2 separate parts: ceremony and festival. Due Khanh, Dinh Ca, Lo Bao, Lung Giang villages gather as a parade toward the center, which attracts the concern and special care of people. Lim festival, a big spring festival in Kinh Bac, is held in Tien Du district, Bac Ninh province. Lim festival is opened from 12th to 14th Lunar January annually. 13th January, the main festival, lasts for 3 to 5 days.
At Lim festival, tourists can watch and listen to music in the hill, behind the pagoda, in the boat and house; then they can also enjoy Quan Ho Bac Ninh in a duet or group singing.
